This is Anitha, former child slave and HIV patient. She was rescued last year by an organization called Mercy 29, which was the group we were travelling with. When they first found her at the slate mines, they found out that she had been abused and raped so much by the owners of the mine that she was almost totally unresponsive. She was also very sick and showed almost no emotion.
After Mercy 29 got her out of the mines, they took her to the hospital where she was diagnosed with HIV aids. She has been staying in and out of hospitals since then, and now she lives at a house with her caretaker.
